Have just been looking at the Racecards for Cheltenham, it starts on Tuesday 13th March and the Gold Cup is actually on Friday 16th. (I got this wrong as it used to be run on the Thursday, but they moved it to the Friday so more people could get time off work and it made the last day more dramatic!)
A few of the top Gold Cup horses were running today at Newbury: a French bred horse called Long Run won his preparation race today. I personally think he has a hard task this year, there are plenty of great horses up against him! I suppose that's what makes it the most special race of the year over jumps, as all the horses carry the same weights.
Tomorrow there are good races too...there is a Grand National Trial at Haydock Park that will be interesting...and another good chase at Ascot where some more Cheltenham runners will be having a final run before the festival.
