Standardbred Art Standardbred - 2 yr olds in training

This is a work in progress.  As you can see I do not use a computer to copy a photo, and this makes drawing more of a challenge to get right.    This is the only way to actually improve drawing horses: to really look.  It is a much slower process, and of course if you are making a living, not productive.  However, as I have often said before I simply cannot cheat on myself by using a computer image of a photo its like painting by numbers, just filling in the color values within lines...quite brilliant really and everyone thinks you're a genius!  Most are not if we were all put together in a field and told to paint a horse:)

You can see the improvement if you look for example at my very first post - if I recall correctly it was a study of a standardbred, simply standing painted on a wood panel.  Actually I still do like the treatment of the coat with the shine, but the actual drawing is weak, the forelegs are too straight etc..etc...  Now I feel I'm getting movement and the anatomy of the horse in motion is getting "right".  I'm liking what I am creating.  At some point I'll post the completed painting, as there's so much more to do!

Why I tell you all about the methods some artists use, is purely so you can see how hard a good artist works to produce a "work of art" for you, rather than a copy of a good photo. I strongly believe that you are paying for a "work of art" which you will love for years to come, so it needs to be exactly that!  The result of an artists laboured work - believe me, often a good artists get frustrated at the development some days, it can be a disaster before it becomes magical.   I'm sure my fellow true artists will all agree with me on this.

As always thanks for reading this. Sarah
