"Greyhound - The Great Grey Ghost" (unfinished) size 10"x20"
Am trying a textured surface today...its interesting to see if it works...hated it to begin with, as it looks like stucco cement but it has grown on me. I can do more with this but am quite happy to see, my grey horses are looking better from all this practice! I wanted to introduce some speed today, and what better way than with Greyhound. He was born in 1932, and was gelded due to the fact that it was the depression and there was not much money in racing at that time...He was tall 16.2hands and a rather awkward looking 2 year old. He sold at auction for 800 guineas. Did he prove them all wrong, because at one time he held 14 world records...some he may still hold today. He always was a frontrunner and held world records over all distances...he even held the record for a trotter under saddle (ie like thoroughbred racing). He was loved by adoring fans and his owner (Colonel Baker)who kept him on show in his retirement often painted his hooves red and adorned him with garlands of flowers. He lived until he was 33 years old. Probably the best trotting horse ever. I'm enjoying trying to portray him in my art and tell the world all about this fine Iron Grey Racehorse
